NYFW!! What trendy individual wouldn't want to get the opportunity to attend, let alone be backstage?! As a somewhat trendy gal my dream came true when I was given the opportunity to attend NYFW and perform my passion. To say the least I was all sorts of emotion when I got asked to do Hair in NYC for Fashion Week! First off, I was like WHAT am I going to wear?! Luckily, the typical hairdresser attire is all black everything. Secondly, I was like HOW am I going to get there and WHERE am I going to stay?! My Alterna Haircare family was with me on those details thankfully and we all managed to make arrangements together in the beautiful city of Manhattan! Anyways, lets get to the details of how it all comes together behind the scenes..
My hair team lead for all four designers was Nathan Rosenkranz, who is a rockstar hairdresser with a chill vibe! The night before the show the hair team lead meets with the designer to do a "test shoot" for hair along with the makeup lead. They go over each model and hairstyle, while capturing each look. The day of; the leads meet with their teams on set and go over the looks while debriefing on how it's all going to happen with the demo model using Alterna Haircare products. Now it's time for the rush of adrenaline every artist craves in the fashion and beauty industry as the models pour into our stations! Before we started Nate briefly assesses each model to customize look. I listened to everything he had to say and got to work with a strong focus on getting the job done at a swift pace! Once I completed a model I confirmed with Nate and if changes needed to be made I did them with no questions asked; if not I moved onto the next model or helped another team member. It was awesome how everyone just meshed together, all from different backgrounds and states. I met so many other talented hairdressers and makeup artists. Once all the models are completed, the leads go through the line of models at call time polishing off any flyaways or smudged lips. The hair and makeup leads along with the designer stand at the forefront of the line backstage as the show starts to make sure each model is perfect before strutting the runway! During that moment the rest of the teams feel so proud and accomplished as they clean up and watch the show unfold! That's a wrap!
Now that you've been backstage through my eyes I will give you a visual of the designers I worked with and trends I saw before they hit the runway! I was on the hair team for four designers this SS'15!
Some Hair Fashion looks include Polynesian-inspired beachy waves with a middle part, "fun buns" high pigtails, sleek long hair with weightless movement, slicked back short hair, and high ponies embracing natural textured hair.
S/S'15 Fashion Trends included a lot of exotic themes including floral, plays on different textures, and feminine with a pop of bright bold color.
To complete my first blog, I would like to thank you for reading and I appreciate any feedback from my readers and fellow bloggers. I hope you enjoyed NYFW as much as I did! xo
